During the last 3 years, we have been struggling to develop an executive team that could meet the needs of our growing organization. The President of our company and I have a clear vision for where we can be in 5 years and what it will require to accomplish that goal. Our thought was that perhaps we had members on the team that were not a fit and might prevent us from reaching the “Top Graded” status we desire, or at the very least delay the success.
Reluctantly, we decided to make the investment and test the coaching waters. As a result, our executive team took the T-MAP and Birkman assessments. Frankly, this further confirmed my concern that I did not have the right players in place, which was not a good feeling as these members of the team were hand picked by me.
We are now well into our third stage of training and coaching and much to my surprise and delight, I see significant changes in the direction and motion of the team. Six months ago, I was concerned that we needed to add members to balance the team however, I am now of a much different mindset. The team members that concerned me most have begun to have clarity as to how they should manage their department managers and team leaders. They have begun to think outside of tradition (“but we’ve always done it this way” and “I’ll never be able to get them to do that”) to see a broader vision. It’s is very exciting to see the change taking place.
Special thanks to Rick Forbus for what he has done to help us to accomplish and will be able to accomplish in the future.
Sincerely,
Gay S. Lowry
Executive Director
